Korhogo, Capitale du "Petits Poteaux", Accueillera la 2ᵉ Coupe d’Afrique des Nations en Décembre 2025

Korhogo, Ivory Coast – After being a notable host city for the 2024 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), Korhogo, the city of Poro, is once again at the center of continental sporting events. From December 6 to 14, 2025 , it will host the second edition of the African Cup of Nations (CANPP) , an event focused on promoting fraternity, entertainment, and local development.

Sixteen Nations in Competition, Angola Causes Sensation

Sixteen national teams are expected on Ivorian soil, demonstrating the growth of this discipline. Alongside the host country, Ivory Coast , we will find Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Benin, Cameroon, DR Congo, Senegal, Gabon, Niger, Congo, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea , and for the first time, Angola .

The arrival of the Angolan team is particularly welcomed. Maître Dalié Tanguy, Vice President in charge of Institutional Relations and Coordination of Federal Activities, is delighted: "The arrival of the Angolan team, eagerly awaited by fans for its spectacular videos combining dribbling and freestyle, promises a real show, without diminishing the level of the other teams." The group draw is scheduled for early November 2025.

Korhogo: More than a Choice, a Recognition

Korhogo's selection is no accident, but rather a recognition of its central role in the sport. According to Mr. Dalié, the city is "one of the strongholds of small-sided football, with more than thirty tournaments organized each year." Popular fervor and local commitment are reflected in the ongoing construction of a stadium entirely dedicated to this sport.

"Paying tribute to Korhogo means recognizing a dynamic, creative, and athletic youth," he emphasizes. Beyond sport, the event is seen as a lever for the region. Welcoming sixteen nations represents "a showcase for its culture and crafts, while boosting its local economy," he adds.

The "Petits Poteaux": from a Street Game to a Federated Sport

Born in the working-class neighborhoods of Ivory Coast, Petits Poteaux football has achieved the status of a sport in its own right. "It's a typically Ivorian sport, just like Senegalese wrestling is for our brothers in Senegal," explains Mr. Dalié. The street game has been professionalized and structured thanks to the Ivorian Federation of Petits Poteaux Football (FIFPP) , created on November 18, 2018 under the leadership of its president, Mr. Fofana Inza.

The rules of the game standardize the practice: two teams of six players compete on a small field, with goals measuring 1 meter by 1.25 meters and a size 3 ball. Despite the diversity of national styles, "the laws of the game remain the same everywhere."

A Continental and Global Ambition

The growth of the discipline is driven by the African Confederation of Small Pots (Capp) , founded on November 18, 2021 and already bringing together 18 countries. After the success of the first edition won by Niger, the CANPP 2025 aims to establish itself as a major and lasting sporting event.

Maître Dalié Tanguy firmly affirms the Confederation's long-term ambition: "Our long-term ambition is clear: to move towards a Small Post Football World Cup ." The Korhogo event is therefore a key step in confirming the institutionalization and international expansion of this sport of Ivorian origin.
