Faux profil, vrai drame : cyber-escroquerie et chantage à Abidjan

Abidjan, November 7, 2025 – Social media, often perceived as a space for meeting and sharing, can quickly turn into a hunting ground. This is what RB, a man living abroad , discovered after falling into the trap of a fake female profile online.

Seduced online by a young woman calling herself RB, he exchanged affectionate messages and sent intimate photos. But soon, requests for money began to pile up. When he decided to say no , the situation escalated: he was then threatened with the release of his private images , a classic form of blackmail on social media platforms.

Alerted in time, RB contacted the Cybercrime Fighting Platform (PLCC) , the technical arm of the National Cybersecurity Agency of France (ANSSI). Thanks to a meticulous technical investigation , investigators were able to identify KEK, the true perpetrator behind the fake female profile .

Despite his attempts to deny the facts, digital evidence confirms his involvement. He was brought before the prosecutor's office for blackmail involving the distribution of sexually explicit images and fraud , amounting to 9,432,000 FCFA , in accordance with Law No. 2013-451 of June 19, 2013 on cybercrime .

This case highlights the importance of online vigilance and quick action in the event of cybercrime: caution and responsiveness can protect against situations that are both financially and psychologically damaging.
