Abidjan's urban landscape has reached a historic milestone in its transformation. The installation of the final section of the steel framework for the Line 1 Metro viaduct has been successfully completed, marking the completion of the steel structure of this major engineering project. This final segment, 30 meters long and weighing 80 tons, represented the most complex challenge of the operation: it is the only section designed on a curve, requiring surgical precision for its insertion onto the final span.

The operation, of exceptional scale, required a high-level technical mobilization over the weekend of March 28, 2026. A monumental 400-ton crane was deployed to lift the structure, under the supervision of some thirty experts, including engineers, lifting technicians, and security forces. To ensure the success of this delicate maneuver while minimizing the impact on the daily lives of Abidjan residents, a nighttime road closure was implemented, transforming the construction site into a hive of precision work under the spotlights.

The success of this operation relied on meticulous coordination between key technical partners, notably BAUDIN CHATEAUNEUF, AGL, and SICMA. The major challenge lay in adhering to an extremely tight schedule: closing the road, deploying heavy equipment, lifting the curved section, and then immediately reopening the road to allow traffic to resume early the next morning. This operational efficiency demonstrates the teams' ability to manage major urban logistical constraints.

With the completion of this steel structure, the Abidjan Metro project has reached a decisive milestone. This viaduct, which will connect the north and south of the economic capital by spanning traffic bottlenecks, symbolizes modern and seamless mobility. For the future 500,000 daily passengers, each step like this brings Abidjan a little closer to its transport revolution, confirming that the delivery schedule for the end of 2028 remains the top priority.
