Le Capitaine Ibrahim Traoré, Premier Détenteur de la Carte d'Identité Biométrique de l'AES au Burkina Faso
Monday, December 1, 2025 marks a historic milestone for regional integration in Burkina Faso: the President of Faso, Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, officially received his biometric identity card from the Confederation of Sahel States (CIB-AES).
After completing the various enrollment steps, the Head of State was presented with this new identity document by the Minister of Security, thus becoming the very first Burkinabe citizen to hold the biometric card of the AES area.
The enrollment and reception of the CIB-AES by President Traoré constitutes the official launch of this document in Burkina Faso. This initiative embodies a major decision taken by the ESA Heads of State at the December 2024 summit, affirming a clear commitment to accelerating integration within the Confederation.
Objectives of the CIB-AES:
Starting in January 2026 , the National Identification Office (ONI) will begin mass production of this new document. Thanks to its reliability and high level of security, this document is intended to be a crucial tool in the fight against terrorism and in securing borders.
