The match between Uganda and Tanzania , played in Rabat as part of the 2025 AFCON , ended in a draw (1-1) , at the end of an intense and eventful encounter.
After a balanced first half, Tanzania opened the scoring in the second half with a penalty , taking the lead in this hard-fought East African derby. With their backs against the wall, the Ugandan Cranes responded with determination and managed to equalize , completely reigniting the match.
Just when the match seemed destined for a draw, Uganda had a golden opportunity in the 89th minute : a decisive penalty to snatch victory. But the shot went wide , missing a major chance that could have given the Ugandans three valuable points.
This missed opportunity sealed the fate of the match, to the great relief of Tanzania, who held on until the final whistle.
With this result, the two teams share a point in a group where every match counts towards qualification for the next round. While Tanzania can be satisfied with having held on until the end, Uganda will undoubtedly have major regrets , as victory was within their grasp in the final minutes.
