Crise en Haïti : Le Tchad confirme l'envoi de 800 hommes pour renforcer une mission à la traîne
While the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMS) is struggling to gain momentum, Chad has reaffirmed its commitment. By June 2026 , N'Djamena plans to deploy 800 police officers and gendarmes to Haiti.
This reinforcement, although expected, underlines the persistent difficulties of this international force launched in 2024 under the auspices of the UN.
Initially, the MMS was supposed to mobilize at least 2,500 men to regain control from the gangs paralyzing Port-au-Prince. However, the reality on the ground is quite different:
Chad's announcement comes at a time of great uncertainty. Kenya, a key player in the operation, has already mentioned a gradual withdrawal of its troops, casting doubt on the mission's sustainability and command structure.
The situation is dire: the humanitarian and political emergency in Haiti is worsening daily. Even if the 800 troops promised by Chad arrive, this reinforcement will not be enough to fill the gap in forces needed to achieve lasting stability in the country.
