Haïti : 70 morts dans une attaque de gangs
An extremely violent attack struck the town of Petite-Rivière-de-l'Artibonite on the night of Saturday, March 28 to Sunday, March 29, 2026. According to the United Nations, at least 70 people were killed during a coordinated offensive carried out by armed groups, a toll significantly higher than the initial estimates put forward by local authorities.
According to available information, several gangs were involved in this attack, which targeted civilian populations in this area of the Artibonite department. The scale and level of organization of the assault demonstrate a worrying increase in the power of armed groups, now capable of conducting simultaneous operations in different locations.
In response to this situation, the United Nations expressed its deep concern, describing the security situation in Haiti as "critical." The organization called for increased mobilization to try to stem the escalating violence that is having a lasting impact on the country.
For several months, Haiti has been facing an intensification of gang-related violence, marked by repeated attacks against civilians and a weakening of the capabilities of the security forces.
This latest tragedy illustrates once again the scale of the security challenges facing the country, as calls for a national and international response multiply.
