Éducation : MAFONDATION clôture avec succès l’opération « Sauver l’Année Scolaire »
After several days of mobilization on the ground, Mafondation has officially ended its emergency humanitarian operation, "Save the School Year," aimed at students affected by evictions and flooding in the municipalities of Koumassi and Port-Bouët. This initiative provided support to more than 205 young candidates for high-stakes exams, including the BEPC, the Baccalaureate, and the BTS.
Launched amidst widespread social hardship, the operation aimed to assist students who had lost essential administrative documents following evictions or severe weather. Thanks to this intervention, beneficiaries were able to recreate their national identity cards and birth certificates, documents indispensable for participating in official examinations.
More than 205 beneficiaries in two municipalities
According to the official report presented by the Foundation, the operation covered the municipalities of Koumassi and Port-Bouët, including the neighborhoods of Campement, Zimbabwe, Vridi Canal, and Vridi 3, as well as several surrounding areas affected by evictions and flooding. In total, more than 205 children and young people benefited from the Foundation's support, with the assistance of more than twenty volunteers mobilized for the occasion.
Comprehensive support for beneficiaries
Beyond administrative assistance, Mafondation implemented a comprehensive support system. Actions taken included fully covering the costs of re-creating official documents, distributing kits and school uniforms to Baccalaureate candidates, providing temporary accommodation for students with volunteer tutors, and funding transportation and living expenses during the exam period. No fees were charged to the beneficiary families.
For the Foundation's leaders, this operation not only preserved the education of hundreds of young people, but also raised awareness among authorities and the public about the difficulties faced by the affected populations. The Foundation believes that the reactions recorded at the highest levels of government, as well as the involvement of various community stakeholders, demonstrate the relevance and impact of this social action.
Education as a priority
Through this initiative, the Foundation affirms that it has achieved its primary objective: to prevent students already vulnerable due to the loss of their homes or belongings from also being deprived of their right to education. It emphasizes that the operation also provided moral support to the affected families, while reaffirming the importance of preserving access to education under all circumstances.
Mafondation co-founder and president Aïssata Camara praised the commitment of the volunteers and host families who contributed to the operation's success. "No student should lose their school year due to circumstances beyond their control," she declared, reaffirming the Foundation's commitment to continuing its work in support of child protection, education, and solidarity with vulnerable populations.
Through this initiative, Mafondation confirms its role as an actor committed to promoting education and social cohesion in Côte d'Ivoire, while providing a concrete response to the challenges faced by the most vulnerable populations.
