Gabon : Le président Oligui Nguema lance un plan de 1 000 logements pour les enseignants
Faced with the social unrest that has been shaking the teaching profession since December 2025, the Gabonese Head of State took decisive action on Monday, February 9th. In direct response to the precarious situation denounced by the unions, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema announced the launch of a national program aimed at building 1,000 social housing units exclusively reserved for teachers.
On-the-ground assessment: The President personally inspected several pilot construction sites. The standard model adopted provides for four two-story buildings (ground floor + 2 floors) totaling 24 apartments (four-room units) for each establishment. At the Léon Mba National High School, construction is already 55% complete.
This project aims to revitalize a profession that feels neglected. While the announcement has been welcomed as a positive sign, teachers, currently on strike due to salary delays and administrative hurdles, are now waiting for these promises to materialize across the country.
