Mali : La condamnation de Moussa Mara confirmée en appel
Moussa Mara has suffered another legal setback. The former Malian Prime Minister saw his sentence upheld by the Bamako Court of Appeal on Monday, February 9. Accused of "undermining the credibility of the State" and "opposing legitimate authority," the opposition figure received a two-year prison sentence, one year of which is suspended, along with a fine of 500,000 CFA francs.
Detained since August 1st, Moussa Mara is paying the price, in particular, for his critical stances towards Assimi Goïta's junta. He was accused of having referred to certain prisoners as "prisoners of conscience" during prison visits. In response to this verdict, his lawyer, Mountaga Tall, has already announced his intention to appeal to the Supreme Court, denouncing a climate of increasing repression against the Malian political class.
